Dr. Tabbye M. Chavous

Dr. Tabbye Chavous drives transformative change as a scholar and administrative leader. With a PhD in Community Psychology from the University of Virginia, she tackles the challenges of equity and inclusion head-on as a professor of education and psychology at the University of Michigan.
Her nearly 27-year tenure at U-M saw her shatter barriers, advancing from assistant to full professor while championing diversity initiatives as Vice Provost for Equity and Inclusion & Chief Diversity Officer, Director of the National Center for Institutional Diversity and Associate Dean in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. Dr. Chavous disrupts the status quo through research on social identity and diversity climates. As lead investigator of the Achievement in Context Lab and co-founder of the Center for the Study of Black Youth in Context, she relentlessly pursues the empowerment of Black youth and families. Her aggressive push for access and retention, particularly in STEM fields, underscores her national and international impact, making her a force in creating inclusive educational environments.
